Thank you for your interest in submitting your work to Hughston House.

Hughston House is open for submissions from authors and literary agents.

We highly encourage those authors who are from traditional, marginally represented groups to submit their manuscripts for consideration.

Currently, we are seeking full length manuscripts within the genres of literary fiction and historical fiction.

We will also accept short story/ novella submissions within the same genres.

For submissions, please send us the following:

  • A query letter (1″ margins on all sides, 1.0 line spacing, 12 pt font in Times New Roman with double spacing between paragraphs)
  • A two-page synopsis of your story (1″ margins on all sides,1.5 line spacing, 12 pt font in Times New Roman with new paragraph indentation)
  • The first three chapters of your novel, or the first seventy-five pages, whichever is greater (1″ margins on all sides, 2.0 line spacing, 12 pt font in Times New Roman with double spacing between paragraphs)

Prior to submission, please also remove illustrations and images from your submission. Assessment of your work is best when working with simple formats. Please also put your name on each document. Your manuscript pages must also be double spaced with 1″ margins on the left and right, and 1″ margins on the top and bottom. Your name and “page x of y” should also be noted in the footer section on the right hand side.

In preparation for emailing your documents, please create a pdf document for each of the requested items. Send all three (3) pdf documents in one email. In your email to us, please type your name in the Subject Line in ALL CAPS and email to: submissions@hughstonhouse.com

If we request the full manuscript of your work, please read and comply with the following for the proper preparation of your manuscript prior to submitting it to us.

Please note that as a traditional publisher, Hughston House does not charge the author any fees for publishing, except for traditional royalties and associated costs, which is a standard practice in the industry.
